Fun things to do in Orange County

We’ve been living in Orange County for almost half a year now, and so far we’re loving it! Weekends are for family and fun, so we try to explore and find cool things to do around where we live. I’ve decided to compile a short list of things to do in Orange County, so enjoy!

1: Beaches!!!

My personal favorite activity! There are so many to explore! We’ve been here about 5 months and still haven’t explored even half of them. Little M loves Dana Point baby beach because it’s in a harbor, so there are no big waves, and the water gets warmer so he can actually wade in it. My favorite is probably Montage/treasure island beach. We also enjoy Aliso, Laguna, and Newport beaches. I also really want to check out pirate tower beach and thousand step beach, but parking is really limited for them.

2: Explore food places.

The possibilities are endless, or at least, so it seems. We try not to eat out too often (the struggle is real!), but when we do go out to eat, it usually takes a while to narrow down the choices! We recently went to the Sunday Farmers market and food truck meet at the Great Park, and we really enjoyed it. We tried a couple different trucks, and everything was quite good. Plus, we got some fresh fruit from the farmers market for dessert!

This was from our recent date night at Splashes in the Surf and Sand Resort. It was on the pricier side, but top notch!
3: The Great Park.

Speaking of which, the Great Park is a fun place to check out! It’s still a work in process, but the orange balloon is pretty cool (we tried to go a couple of times, but it was grounded), and the carousel is something for kids to enjoy (for super cheap too). Plus there are seasonal things that come and go, like the circus that’s currently in town, or the market every Sunday.

4: Irvine Spectrum Center.

Spectrum has a ton of dining options, loads of shopping, a movie theater, a Ferris wheel, carousel, and a train ride for littles. It pretty much has something for everyone!

5: Shopping.

Shopping is always fun (at least for me, hubs disagrees). Aside from Spectrum Center, there are many other shopping centers in Orange County. There are at least three or four that are within ten minutes of where we live.

6: Zoos.

This one is more for the kiddos, although adults can enjoy it too! There are two zoos in OC that I know of so far, the Santa Ana Zoo and the Orange County Zoo. We prefer the latter, even though it’s a little smaller with fewer animals. We like that it has a petting zoo for our toddler. I think there are couple other small zoos around, and you can also drive down to the San Diego Zoo for a bigger experience.

7: Museums.

So I have to admit, we’ve only been to the Children’s Pretend City Museum, but I would like to check out a few of their other museums in the area. Little M did enjoy the children’s museum though!

And that’s all I have for now! I hope that we continue to discover fun new things as we continue to live here, but for now, I’m perfectly content going to the beach every weekend!
If you have other suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
